- South Carolina ranks last in the country for the percentage of students dropping out of high school.

- Between 9th grade and 12th grade the number of students enrolled in public schools in our region fell by 3,420 students in the past four years – a 44 percent decline.

- Nearly one-third of the enrollment decline in the region occurs between the ninth and 10th grades.

The Education Foundation believes in forming partnerships and building coalitions to take action to address these challenges. Over the past four years we have worked in partnership with schools and the business community to design programs that address the above challenges. When students are introduced to the many possibilities in the world of work, and have the opportunity to gain concrete experience in the workplace, they will be more motivated to stay in school and to succeed. When they graduate, they will be more informed about choices for further education and more prepared ultimately to enter the work force prepared for success.
